LUWINGU- Government through the Luwingu Town Council has started the construction works of the first ever modern Bus Terminus in the district, at an estimated cost of over k8 million.
Luwingu District Commissioner Chomba Chileshe commissioned the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the construction of the facility on Saturday morning at Luwingu’s Forestdale area.
Mr. Chileshe said the 100×90 metres Bus Station will be built in phases within a period of three year’s and Tinna Investment Limited (TLC), will carry out phase1 works, at a projected cost k2.1 million, using the Constituency Development Fund(CDF).
He said the execution of the project in phases was aimed at giving room for the implementation of other significant projects in the district.
Speaking at same event, Lubansenshi law maker Hon. Taulo Chewe called on residents of Luwingu to support the contractor identified to carry out the works.
Hon. Chewe added that the Zambia Public Procurement Act (ZPPA), defined a local contractor as any bonafide citizen of Zambia and that the application of bids at the council was not limited to luwingu residents only .
He highlighted that Zambia’s electronic procurement portal , (e.GP) system, was open for submission of tenders from any eligible Zambians .
And Luwingu District Chairperson, His Worship Rodericks Mulenga thanked Tinna Investment Limited for employing over 70 locals in the construction of the Bus Station.
The Council Chairperson highlighted that his office always championed for the recruitment of locals by investors in the district.
Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Chief Chipalo said he was elated to witness the implementation of such a phenomenal project in the district.
Chief Chipalo was hopeful that the Bus Terminus will bring the much needed development in the district and pledged his support towards government’s development agenda.
And speaking earlier, Katopola Ward Councilor, Lewing’s Ngandwe thanked government for increasing the scope of CDF from k1.6 to k36.1 million.
Cllr Ngandwe explained that had government not expanded the scope of CDF, the construction of the modern bus station would have not been achieved.
Speaking at the same event , Lubansenshi Constituency Development (CDFC) Vice-Chairperson, Lilian Mulenga thanked everyone for coming to witness the ground breaking ceremony .
Meanwhile, Tinna Investment LTD Engineering Manager, Mwaka Simwanga called on youths in the district to come and apply for temporal jobs at the construction site.
Eng. Simwinga said the company was in dare need of human power to effectively execute the works and that the site was open to more job applications from Luwingu residents.
